5 Tips & Tricks for a Sweet Engagement Session
January, 25 2016
Planning an engagement session is not always easy-breezy. Between location specifics, the weather forecast, outfit changes, and trying to master perfect poses, there is a lot to think about. When inspiration slows, count on your friends around you to help figure out the details.
Thankfully, your friends at Lily & Lime have you covered. Keep these tips in mind while you talk over the details with your sweetie and you’ll be well on your way to memorable, unique engagement photos.
1. While engagement photos aren’t always necessary and can seem like extra planning during an already busy time, it’s a great opportunity to practice in front of the camera. It not only helps you feel more comfortable with having your photo taken, but also allows you to get to know your photographer a bit more! Great photos are a team effort. When you’re prepared and know how to work with your photographer, beautiful photos are sure to be captured.
2. Location, location, location. Don’t over think it! Be a tourist in your own city. Is there a museum, park or boardwalk your city is known for? These spots are perfect photo locations, and you may be overlooking them. Locations like these bring vibrancy and color to your session, as well as a sense of locale.
Or, pick a spot that’s near and dear to you! Your neighborhood coffee shop or bar can make for some unexpected, but just as sweet, personal sessions.
3. Awesome attire. Believe it or not, your clothing choice is half the battle. You and your partners outfits should be coordinating but not matching. Bring in like colors. Stay away from bold, distracting patterns. And remember, be yourself! Wear comfy clothes that you can easily move and sit in.
4.Time’s ticking. There are a few optimum times for photos, one being an hour and half before sunset. You’ll have all the time you need to get in a few outfit changes (if you choose), strike a few poses in your favorite locations, and wrap up in golden hour light. Stay away from harsh, mid-day sun!
5. Good to know. Since this is likely your first on-location photo shoot, we thought it would be helpful to know the following: Some locations require that you have an appointment. Some of your favorite locations may also require a photography permit and you may have to pay a fee. Call ahead to get all the details! You should schedule your payment directly with the location (this is not included in your session price).
Stick to the tips above to make the most of your engagement session. Make it sweet and memorable.
