Showers of Love on a Rainy Wedding Day
February, 15 2016

Elizabeth and Chuck’s wedding was a delight to photograph and their classic, black-tie attire made for an elegant affair their friends and family won’t soon forget.
Their chosen colors of burgundy, black and ivory stayed true to their classic wedding theme. The groom and groomsmen looked dapper in matching black tuxedos, suspenders and cumberbunds: Burgundy pocket squares brought an understated pop of color to the guys’ sleek black look.
We were there to capture Elizabeth’s pre-ceremony gift to Chuck, a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve (so classy!).
The bride included her own pops of burgundy in her bridal bouquet, with deep red blooms among the ivory and pale pink flowers.
The dangling pocket watch and handkerchief from the bouquet were part of the bride’s sweet sentimental take on the traditional “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” The handkerchief was her Something Borrowed, a hand embroidered pillowcase from her great-grandmother: The bride’s initials were added, and her brother and sister will have their initials included when they are married in the future! After all three weddings it will be returned to their mother. The Something Old was the pocketwatch carried with the bouquet, which belonged to the bride’s Nonna. Her wedding gown was the Something New, and Something Blue was a piece of one of her father’s shirts tied into the tulle of her dress. So sweet!
The bridal party shined in gorgeous floor-length burgundy bridesmaids dresses, completing the classic look and feel of the wedding.
Fear not if your wedding day forecast begins to look overcast and rainy. Your Lily & Lime photographer can create beautiful, romantic photos in any weather!
The couple’s wedding photos still shined despite the hazy atmosphere. With an overcast sky comes softened light, with no need to work around the harsh shadows created by direct sunlight! Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline are iconic enough to withstand any fog, mist or rain.
If the forecast begins to show rain in the days leading up to your wedding, consider getting an umbrella to use both for function and as a prop! Elizabeth and Chuck braved the drizzle to capture some beautiful shots with their wedding photographer. The umbrella added visual interest while staying within the couple’s classic theme and wedding colors!
Your photographer can also make use of interior space. We love the dramatic dip on an interior staircase here!
