Ways Couples Can Celebrate Black History Month
February, 23 2022
Every year Feb. 1 marks the start of Black History Month, which is dedicated to honoring the great contributions the Black Community has made throughout U.S. history. Well, Black excellence is something that should and needs to be celebrated every day. But as every month is dedicated to something special, the month of February is entirely dedicated to learning, reflecting, and celebrating the rich culture, inspiring history, and accomplishments of the Black diaspora. So, here are some meaningful and amazing ways for you and your darling to say it out loud: “We Love Black and We are Proud of it!”, or “I am Black and I am Proud of it!”
Start With Celebrating A Black Author Together (If You Both are Into Books)
Do you remember the last time you read a book with your boo? Well, if you don’t remember that then no worries, you can always do that together over a cup of coffee. You can just head over to your local bookstore with your bae and just grab an inspirational book written by a Black author to celebrate Black History Month together! Just imagine sharing a bottle of your favorite wine (a merlot from Abbey Creek Vineyard, it is a Black-owned vineyard) and also cuddling while reading “Becoming” by Michelle Obama out loud and cherish each word as your sweetheart reads it with every sip of your favorite wine. If you think this idea is just too cheesy for you both and you want to do something different, then you can try listening to a book by a Black author via Audible while cooking your favorite dinner together!
If you need something more strong about love and relationships, and how and why you should stay together with your partner, then you can consider reading “An American Marriage” by Tayari Jones. The story of this book is an emotional, rousing account of Black love. In this lovely and intense book, the author, Jones tells the story of a husband and wife, Celestial and Roy. Roy is wrongly accused of rape and was ordered to serve a prison sentence. Readers are able to relate to this very easily as they follow the couple’s struggle to stay united, despite their diverging paths! This book tells the true meaning of loving someone and staying together no matter how hard the circumstances get. After all, love is above everything!
Support A Black-Owned Business
Even now many Black-owned businesses still experience structural racism, which indeed poses a unique threat to their longevity and their ability to serve their communities' needs! We all know that Black business owners are still underrepresented in the business world, no matter how much we talk about equality for all. If we look at the COVID-19 scenario, the Black business owner has experienced a massive hit with a 41 percent drop. Henceforth, becoming a customer specifically during the month of February till April is indeed a great way to celebrate Black History Month, but there is no reason to stop there and continue the practice even after that. All the soon-to-be brides who are getting hitched in the month of February, March, or even April, can consider Black wedding dress designers for their wedding dress! The majority of us are not aware of the fact that black bridal designers have always been at the vanguard when it comes to creativity and uniqueness in the bridal industry for years! Some of the famous Black wedding dress designers like Ann Cole Lowe, Jean-Ralph Thurin, Andrea Pitter- Campbell of Pantora Bridal, Amsale Aberaa of Amsale, and others are leaving their mark in the world of bridal fashion for decades. Black History is made every day, and trust us, these extremely and incredibly talented and damn creative bridal wedding dress designers still continue to make strong and prominent waves in the bridal industry with showstopping, intricately designed wedding gowns for all the brides out there!
